Well it can happen again in the filed of life coaching. That’s why when considering schools for life coaching courses make sure they offer communities of practice.
In the coaching program I enrolled students had to attend 12 weeks of practice and discussion for the niche they decided to pursue.
This is an important part of any program because it allows hands on experience in the niche you are considering developing. It’s also a great opportunity to network and build relationship with coaches not just in the coaching business but in your particular area of specialization. It’s always important to build relationships and connections before you graduate.
Communities of practice also server as an open forum for coaches to express their fears, doubts and get their questions answered by the group.
Don’t limit your self to one particular area, explore all the different niches available even if you think you won’t like it. Again the partnerships you build are supporting blocks to have a successful practice in the future. Look into details for training programs that offer an extended list of these communities of practice if they don’t have one I suggest you go somewhere else.
Here are some suggestions to make the best of the communities:
Participate fully, don’t be afraid to ask or answer questions in the group
Look for ways to share any resource you might have found.
Suggest books that you have learned from in the topic and how it helped you.
Offer yourself as a resource and as a referral for the future.
Spend times in the discussion boards for that particular topic, start creating awareness of your name and position yourself as an expert.
Exchange emails with other coaches and enter them in your CRM system.
Setup auto responders and scheduled emails to keep in touch regularly.
